Football Kit Design Timeline

1978-79

Juventus became the first Italian club to wear a manufacturer logo on its shirts. The kit was made by Kappa, and the logo was not allowed to be any bigger than 12 cm2 in size.

Roma become the first Serie A club to wear an Adidas branded kit. This was also the first season where Roma wore the 'Lupetto' ('little wolf') crest designed by Pietro Gratton, used between 1978 and 1996. The design came about because the City Hall of Rome didn't give their permission to the Roman club to use the Capitoline Wolf, although the institutional crest would return from 1997 onwards.

Derby County became the first English club to wear a Le Coq Sportif kit. They would continue to do so until the end of the 1980-81 season.

Everton wear a badge featuring St Rupert's Tower for the first time on its players' shirts.
